What an amazingly beautiful day. The weather cooperated, the kids danced, the activities were plentiful and the performances were phenomenal. Couldn’t have asked for a better first day of Lollapalooza 2011.
Check out our photos from Day One:
Kate was in Boston and I’m in Chicago. We did a Skype interview. I kind of dig the Skype interviews. She’s going to rise to the top…just you wait and see.
Chuck and I sat down, some 700 miles apart, and chatted up a storm via Skype about his band’s upcoming trip to Chicago to play Kidzapalooza. This will be Chuck’s first time in Chicago and he’s ready to take on the north-side White Sox and the south-side Cubs fans! Yeah!
Take a look and listen as we chat about his band, Big Bang Boom; who he’s looking forward to seeing at Kidzapalooza and…pants, of all things.
Drum roll please.
Here is our official 2011 line-up:
Also, our video announcement is way more entertaining than text. Check it out:

The buzz…THE BUZZ is getting LOUDER! Lollapalooza is now less than four months away!
Everyone is starting to talk about this summer’s festival, as the official Lollapalooza line-up was released just days ago. We’re celebrating Lolla’s 20th anniversary and it’s shaping up to be a pretty huge event.
We’re getting ready to release our official line-up, too. Hang tight, it’s coming soon. Trust.
For now, we’re pleased to announce our 2011 Sonicbids submission winner, Big Bang Boom

Chuck Folds and his gang will grace the Kidzapalooza stage this coming August and we’re ecstatic.
Check back often, as we’ll post updates more frequently.

Wow! Hey! How are you? So how was your winter? This winter in Chicago was FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! How many of you were stranded on Lake Shore Drive last month during the famous Blizzard 2011?
Man, the blog has been sitting dormant for a while. Well, it’s March and HOLY COW! Lollapalooza Chicago is just under five months away! Don’t worry, the snow is generally gone by…June.
We are happy to announce that we are now accepting submissions for acts on the family stage, aka KIDZAPALOOZA at the Lollapalooza festival. This year’s event takes place at Grant Park in Chicago, IL from August 5 – 7.
Have you been to Kidzapalooza? We seriously have the best spot in Grant Park.
Before I get too sidetracked reminiscing about the excitement of past festivals, here is the link for submitting your act to be considered for this year’s Kidzapalooza stage:
—> SUBMIT YOUR BAND’S EPK HERE FOR CONSIDERATION <—
In case you are not familiar yet with SonicBids, here’s the deal:
Head over to SonicBids and create your band profile (or sign in if you already have a SonicBids account) and submit your EPK (Electronic Press Kit) to our gig – http://www.sonicbids.com/kidzapalooza
Check out what Tim Kubart of Tim and the Space Cadets had to say about his first experience playing Kidzapalooza after his act was selected in 2010:
“Just a perfect weekend. It gave us HUGE exposure. Our set was also broadcast live over XM radio. Best sound guys we have ever worked with. Great experience. If you can play a festival gig like this as a kids artist, you definitely should, the rock star perks are rather awesome.“
Act submissions will be accepted until April 15th.
Good luck and we hope to see you at Kidza ’11!
*Two more things for you to consider: Submissions for Austin Kiddie Limits (Sept. 16-18 in Austin, TX) are also being accepted. Click here to submit your act for consideration at Austin Kiddie Limits.
Artist submissions are being accepted for episode 5 of the KindieCast Podcast. Submit your band’s EPK here for KindieCast Podcast consideration.
Winner update: Congratulations to comment entry #59, April!
We figured that we would kick off the official launch of the new blog with a giveaway. Feast your eyes upon the iGo Charge Anywhere:
Here is what Amy, Kidzapalooza Blog contributing editor, has to say about this fancy gadget:
“I recently learned about the iGo Charge Anywhere on my visit to the Yahoo! campus last month. Many of my peers were whipping them out of their bags and plugging in their iPhones and Blackberry’s for a quick charge on the go. I instantly knew that this “green” charger was essential in keeping me connected during my Lollapalooza weekend.“
The details:
The iGo Charge Anywhere is a portable, dual charger. Plug the unit into a wall outlet to charge it (you can connect your device via USB while the Charge Anywhere is charging). Then, tuck it into your pocket or throw it into your bag, along with your device’s USB cord and you can charge your device anytime, anywhere. The Charge Anywhere will charge your device (smart phones, hand held gaming systems, cameras, MP3 players, etc.) for up to 4 hours. The charger comes with a “device tip” for your personal device, (Apple, Blackberry, Nintendo, Sony, etc.) that you can connect to the included 6 ft. charging cable.
For more information about the iGo Charge Anywhere, just click here or visit their Facebook Fan Page here.
